A father died in Schleswig-Holstein while trying to save his daughter who had fallen into the water. According to the police, the nine-year-old fell into a pond on Thursday evening without outside influence.
According to the police on Friday, the 61 year old jumped after his child in the Tornesch community when he cried for help. Witnesses saved the girl from the water, but the father went under. According to initial findings, neither of them was apparently able to swim.
Policemen recovered the lifeless 61 year old from the small pond a little later, other rescue workers reanimated him. However, the man died on Friday morning in a Hamburg hospital, where he was then taken. His daughter was therefore in shock.
A case of a father and his children, who were also non-swimmers and drowned on vacation in Spain, made headlines last year. There were two tragic bathing accidents, about which a lot was reported, this year in Egypt and also in the German Wadden Sea. (Tsp, dpa)
